Year 8 Project 2009

Key Competency Focus: Participating and Contributing. Relating to Others.

In this project you are also developing the other Key Competencies of Thinking, Using language, symbols and text and Managing self.

Class Presentations on Period 6 on Wednesday 2nd December and Period 2 Monday 7th December.
Grades to be emailed to parents.
You will be marked on content, presentation delivery, your presentation creations: powerpoint/video/physical display items and evidence of group work where everyone has contributed. You will get Achieved, Merit or Excellence for each of the four areas, and to gain an Excellence grade you will need to get Excellence in three areas and at least Merit in the fourth.
Remember: 1. Content; 2. Delivery; 3. Presentation materials used and uploaded onto Edmodo and 4. Group Work.

1. Get a group of 1 to 4 people.
2. Choose a topic, it can be platonic solids, pentominoes, Origami or something from here
3. You must research the topic, ask questions about the history of it, learn the language, be able to explain exactly what/how/who/when. If doing platonic solids can you make a connection to the sonobe units as shown below?. If doing pentominoes how many solutions are there, when and where were they invented? If you chose Origami then you could make a video showing how to make something, you could show actual examples you have made to the class, you could find a practical use for Origami. If you have chosen a logic game then can you find a pattern in the solution, what mathematical skill is used? What is the history of the game, who invented it?
4. Your job is to teach the rest of the class by way of 10 minute presentation including a data display. You may include objects you have made also.
5. Load your presentation materials in to edmodo class web site.
6. Present it in a fun way to the class and teach everyone something new. When you teach your peers you are Participating and Contributing. When you work in a group to deliver a presentation you are Relating to Others.
7. Get a friend to video your presentation and place it on the class edmodo site too!
8. Depth of learning and peer tuition is the aim - not just a bit of FUN!
